EXCLUSIVE: Amid backlash, Manoj Bajpayee says they have done everything to show respect to Tamil culture and sensibilities in The Family Man 2

Amazon Prime Video’s original series The Family Man has quite literally changed the way audiences perceive Indian content. The edge-of-the-seat thriller has a gripping storyline and some impactful performances by some of the best artists in the country with a subtle humorous background. Season 2 will premiere soon but ahead of it, the show is mired in controversy. The show began to receive flak over the depiction of Eelam Tamils after the trailer was released.

Assuring the fans that the makers have done everything to show respect to Tamil culture and sensibilities, Manoj Bajpayee spoke to Bollywood Hungama recently about the backlash. “Humare team mein jo main leaders hai, jo lead kar rahe hai iss show ko, khaas kar ke season two ko, yeh zyadatar Tamilians hai (The ones leading our show, especially the second season, are primarily Tamilians). Raj and DK, Samantha (Akkineni), Priyamani, Suman (Kumar), who is the writer… Who can be a better person than these guys to safeguard the interests of Tamil people, friends and viewers? I don’t think anybody can be better than them. They are the people who have been leading this show, they have created this show and they have done everything possible to show their respect for the Tamil culture and sensibilities,” he said.

The Family Man is an edgy, action-drama series, which tells the story of a middle-class man, Srikant Tiwari, who works for a special cell of the National Investigation Agency. The series explores Srikant's tight-rope walk as he struggles to strike a balance between his secretive, low paying, high-pressure, high-stakes job and being a husband and a father. This is a story of a middle-class guy who is a world class spy.

The award-winning Amazon Original Series marks the digital debut of South superstar Samantha Akkineni who joins the stellar ensemble cast including Padma Shree recipient Manoj Bajpayee, Priyamani, along with incredible talent from across India, including Sharib Hashmi, Seema Biswas, Darshan Kumar, Sharad Kelkar, Sunny Hinduja, Shreya Dhanwantary, Shahab Ali, Vedant Sinha and Mahek Thakur. The show also features incredible cast from Tamil cinema, including Mime Gopi, Ravindra Vijay, Devadarshini Chetan, Anandsami and N. Alagamperumal.
